Abalone diver Geoff Bull got things started back in 1980 and there is now
more than five hectares of picturesque vineyard, including a higher altitude
planting specially for sparkling wine.
The pinot noir
and chardonnay have a national reputation and there have been some
spectacular cabernets and rieslings too.
Wines made by Claudio Radenti have won many medals at shows. Visitors are able to see the vineyard and winery and buy Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Muller Thurgau and Cabernet Sauvignon at the cellar door. Tea, coffee and pates are also served.
November 2012 - New Vineyard Acquisition
We were recently successful in acquiring a portion of the neighbouring Coombend property from Brown Brothers.
This new acquisition (42 hectares) borders onto our existing Vineyard and extends through to the Tasman Highway from our original property.
Inclusive in the purchase is a 5.75 hectare mature vineyard and a 4.2 hectare olive grove and the original Coombend Tasting Room.
This brings our total vineyard site to 14.75 hectares.
We are absolutely delighted with this purchase as it gives us highway frontage onto the busy Tasman Highway, and provides scope for future generations of the family to expand, should they wish to do so.
We look forward to offering hopefully stunning Freycinet Sauvignon Blanc (and Freycinet Olive Oil) in the near future!

The vineyard overlooks the spectacular Freycinet National Park and this fabulous setting is host every Easter Sunday to a jazz concert in the vineyard, with Freycinet wines and local foods. |

The tasting room is one of the most atmospheric in the state, in a converted
stable built by convict labour in 1842.
Recently
Spring Vale owners Rodney and Lyn Lyne have been making a bit of a stir with
some spectacular gewurtztraminer and pinot gris, and the chardonnay's not
too dusty either.
A great range
of wines and a must-visit on the East coast. Just north of Swansea- open
10am to 5pm every day.

Apsley Gorge vineyard is approximately 15 kilometres inland from Bicheno on Tasmania's East Coast at the entrance to the Apsley Gorge, and has one of the most stunning locations overlooking The Gulch in Bicheno, where the ocean swirls and crashes onto the rocks. The unique micro climate of this north east facing valley produces distinctive cool climate wines, medal winning chardonnay and pinot. These wines are aged in French oak.
Apsley Gorge Vineyard’s first vintage was produced in 1993, the wine maker was Andrew Hood who continued to make the wines until 1998. The owner Brian Franklin took over the wine making in 1999.
Apsley Gorge Vineyard itself is not open to the public. It has a uniquely located cellar door facility at the Bicheno Winery at "The Gulch" in Bicheno.
All to be enjoyed whilst overlooking the spectacular coastal and ocean view.

The Hazards Vineyard is situated half way between Swansea and Bicheno on Tasmania’s spectacular east coast. Tasmania sits in the path of the “Roaring Forties” whose strong westerly winds generally drive the state’s weather patterns. Being on the east coast The Hazards Vineyard is largely sheltered from these influences and benefits from a drier and more moderate climate than other parts of the island. Rainfall depends on easterly weather patterns generated by low pressure systems off the coast which can produce large falls from time to time.
Varieties:
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Savagnin. |

The Vineyard Site
In 2007 the decision was made to plant a vineyard at Gala and take advantage of Tasmania’s growing reputation as a premium cool climate wine region.
In 2011 Gala Estate produced our first vintage with spectacular results. The 4.3 hectares of productive vineyard yielded around 3 ton / Ha and our cellar door opened in Dec.
In 2012 we have had another successful vintage and now have a wine range which includes a light style “young vine” Pinot Noir, an Estate Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Rose, Pinot Gris, Dry Riesling and a Late Harvest Riesling and a Sparkling to be released in 2014.

raigie Knowe is the oldest vineyard on the East Coast of Tasmania.
Our first vines were planted in 1979, by then Hobart dentist John
Austwick. He was such a pioneer of the time, with many local farmers
thinking he was crazy, but they quickly realised John was onto something
and planted their own vines.
A passionate Bordeaux Blend Cabernet fan, John initially planted Cab
Sav, Cab Franc, Merlot and Petite Verdot, but Pinot and Riesling soon
followed. He made his own wine on site in what is now the Cellar Door,
and built a great reputation as an exceptional winemaker.

The warm summers and modest cropping levels typically found on the Freycinet Coast of Tasmania provided the Dunbabin family with an excellent Pinot Noir, superb Riesling, lively Rosé, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and a complex and distinguished Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay. All grown at our Milton Vineyard on Tasmania's East Coast. The vineyard is meticulously maintained and cared for with attention to detail being paramount. The fruit is hand-picked from mid-April and made into wine by award-winning contract winemakers Julian Alcorso, John Schuts, and Greer Carland at Winemaking Tasmania.
Tasmania lends itself to boutique vineyards. Our vineyard has a unique micro-climate that suits the ancient grape Pinot Noir. Also in our 5 hectare vineyard are plantings of the aromatics Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer. Our focus is on producing small quantities of handmade wine. Close attention is paid to every detail in the vineyard and the wines represent this exacting work. |
